Reviews for: Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

5 stars 1350 Reviews
This is the chili recipe the gang eats at Purdue Boilermaker football games. I always prep and cook the chili the night before and then reheat the next day. This is a combination of many different tomato-based chili recipes. Good luck and enjoy.

"I think this is bar far the best Chili recipe I have ever had! It has just the right amount of spice not to spicy but just enough to make it WOW! I used 2 cans kidney beans instead of three cans chili beans at my husbands request, and it was still awesome!!"

"This chili was ok and good for a crowd with a variety of tastes. Not special in any way, though. Too much tomato for my taste... and I could also skip the addition of beer."

"I absolutely love this chili!!! The recipe is perfect, and I have had many "this is the best chili ever" comments!! I love this spicy fullness. I sometimes add more chopped up vegetables like zuchini. Also use a combination of pork sausage and ground venison."

"This a great recipe! It sounded really hot so I scaled back some the spice and it was still pretty spicy but good. This is a good recipe to play with and see what happens. I added a little Bison meat and red wine for a darker flavor."

"Wow! This is one of the best chili recipes I've ever made. My old, tried and true recipe is now in the trash. The only thing that I changed is to up the onion, omit the tobasco and up the acid with the addition of about 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Great recipe!"

"This chili was OK on flavor, but not much better than a typical chili dumped out of a can. It's also very high in fat and salt. I agree with another reviewer that this leaves you feeling like a brick hit your stomach."

"This is so very delicious because the multilayered flavors meld together so perfectly! I used 1 1/2 lbs each of beef stew meat and ground beef along with the Italian sausage, and among the cans of chili beans I used one of the jalapeno husband pleasing beans, one of mild chili beans, and two of medium spicy (and I forgot to drain any of them). The rest of the recipe I followed except went short on the chili powder (probably used only 3 tablespoons), and I added no salt or black pepper. It was so very tasty! I'll make this many times in the future!"

"My boyfriend and I made this one night, it was really great. We love our chili spicy so we added more peppers from his parents garden and I love beans so we added a can of pinto beans and a can of black beans. The first night we were afraid we had out spiced ourselves as it was nearly inedible because of how hot it was, but after sitting in the fridge for a night we reheated it and had it for dinner and it was amazing. My friend who is always watching her food intake even went back for seconds. The one bad thing about this recipe is that I can never eat canned chili again."

"A family favorite. I skipped out on the the chile peppers to avoid what was already going to be hot. And I used Mild Italian for the fa replacement for the chile peppers."

"My husband loves chili and I always hated making it because it always came out too thick and didn't have enough flavor. When I came across this recipe and read the reviews I thought I should try it and I'm glad I did. This chili is so easy to make and full of great flavor. I served it for guests and they couldn't get enough. Thank you for posting such a great and easy recipe. Usually I don't like to make things with tons of ingredients but this one is worth it."

"I a not sure what happened but my chili turned out SUPER salty. Could have been my mistake because otherwise it had great flavor but next time I make I will not add any salt and will pay ore attention to the salt content of the other ingredients."

"I'm suprised at how many people gave this 5 stars. For the amount of ingredients, it's pretty mediocre."

"Yesterday was my first time making Chili and this recipe was exceptionally easy and delicious. I made it for a work fund raiser and the whole pot was gone before I knew it. It wasn't that spicy. I was short a can of chili beans and forgot to buy a red pepper, otherwise followed the recipe. I will make it again."
