"I thought this was great. My husband and two kids loved it! I made as stated except I used turkey burger instead of ground beef. I also made two casseroles out of this. It made a lot!"

"Took this to a birthday party last night and I got rave reviews. After reading other reviews, here are the changes I made. I added a package of taco seasoning to the beef while cooking. I also added some cumin. I used salsa instead of taco sauce and used mexican cheese instead of colby cheese. I used two tortillas together spreading the refried beans betweeen both tortillas. Because of all the reviews I thought this dish would be a lot juicier that it was. I do not think a double layer of tortillas was necessary because I thought it was a little to dry. Will make again using only one layer of tortillas."

"I made this recipe for 2 families and they both RAVED about it! I used the mild diced tomatoes and green chilies to reduce the "kick" since children would be eating it. I thought it had a great flavor and was simple to make. This is definitely a keeper!"

"I used crumbled tortilla chips in place since it was what I had on hand. I also used whole beans, just what I prefer. This was a great dish and seemed even tastier the next day. Next time I'll use ground turkey or shredded chicken as a variation."

"HELPFUL TIPS AFTER MAKING THIS FOR YEARS: Halve the MEAT but used 3/4th a can of the olives, whole can diced tomatoes & entire can of chiles (can't cut too much out or you won't be able to stack your pie). Sometimes I add chopped red/green peppers and cut out onions. Eyeball the salsa (use enough to coat the meat) which I use instead of taco s. Don't be afraid to layer this with 2-3 tortillas starting at the SECOND layer b/c it makes it taste just perfect (like taco bell mexican pizza)! I sprinkle taco seasoning over the beef while it's cooking (awesome flavoring) but not necessary. It helps tremendously to let it simmer as long as it says because the ingred. start to stick together for a nicer consistency. Apply a THIN layer of refried beans on the bottom of each new tortilla (i submitted pic), THIN layer of meat, & buy extra mexican cheese b/c you tend to use a lot to layer perfectly! This made 3 thin layers of meat, cheese, refried beans w/just the right amount to add the last amount of meat on top & have enough refried beans to serve as a side (b/c you only use 1/4th of it). If you make the full amount, it freezes well, so you can use it for a quick meal! Update: I cook until edges of tortilla are not soft (almost crisp so never soggy) & people go nuts over this!"

"Delicious and very easy recipe! To make it even easier, I skipped cooking the burger and instead used 2 cans of chili, 1 with and one without beans. For the top layer, I combined whipped cream cheese and chili powder and spread that on the top, then covered with the shredded cheese. Serve with sour cream and freshly chopped cilantro. EXCELLENT!"

"Overall it's good. Very kid friendly if you omit some of the spice in it. To tell you the truth it's a little heavy for our families tastes, but good to put on the meal plan once every 2 months or so. My mother in-law loved it."

"i used 1 pound of ground turkey in place of the beef and omitted the olives and chili peppers. i took the suggestion of happywife05 and used 2 tortillas per layer instead of one. end result was delicious with enough left over to freeze. will definitely make again and maybe add some corn to the mixture."

"This was really good but it was hard to know how much meat mixture to put between each layer. Had I had a better idea of that I think it wouldve turned out much better. I would say to put quite the thin layer of the beef. My taco sauce was only 12oz. Couldnt find a bigger jar & didnt want to buy two. I also added 1 taco seasoning pack after garlic/onion (no water just the seasoning). I ended up not using as many tortillas because I made the meat mixture too thick and filled the pan before being able to do enough layers. Perhaps I will do more tortillas on each layer next time too as I read in some other reviews. It was definitely a recipe I will use again."

"Yummy!!! I didn't even bother to read the reviews and make changes. I think that my can of chilis was bigger, and I used enchilada sauce instead of taco sauce. Standard can sizes of the other stuff. I used about 1 lb of cheese total. This turned out very tasty; I may read the reviews and get additional change ideas, or I might just keep making it this way because we thought it was great!"

"My husband and I host a lunch get-together every Sunday for a bunch of his guy friends, and I made this today for them. It was a big hit. I made a few changes: 1) I used some leftover pulled BBQ pork meat instead of the ground beef mixture. I know, not very Mexican, but I had a LOT leftover that I needed to use up and it went very very well with everything else. 2) I made the tortilla layers by making "sandwiches" out of the tortillas and beans (a couple big scoops of beans between two tortillas.) This worked out very well since I thought the beans and meat mixed together may have been too thick, and the two tortillas per layer kept the casserole together without getting soggy. 3) I served the black olives on the side, along with various other toppings, since some of my guests don't like black olives. All in all, this was very quick and easy to make and very good. Our guests loved it."
